Garnet Ghost Town

Yesterday (August 1) the plan was to get to Glacier National Park, but we got sidetracked by a sign for a ghost town. It was definitely worth it. Garnet was a mining town that was abandoned around 1915ish and then reclaimed during the Depression for a brief period. Most of the buildings are still standing and in relatively decent shape. They've done some restorative work on some, but you can hardly tell. Even much of the original furnishings are still there. Along with houses, there was a general store, two saloons, a livery stable, a boarding house, and a jail. The town is situated almost on top of a mountain, so the view from the road was also gorgeous.

  1. Oh, how cool!! Reminds me of DQ!! Except they didn't have 2 saloons on DQ! What does a town that size need with two saloons!? And why would anyone leave a town situated in the middle of all that beauty that also had two saloons!?!? Hmm.

    Miss you!!
    Love,
