Badlands National Park

Yesterday (July 31) we drove through the Badlands. (No, we didn't see any rattlesnakes.) Since it was just a quick stop on our way, we didn't really do any hiking, but we got some great pictures just the same. I was surprised to find how similar it was to Bryce Canyon in Utah in places.

After leaving the park, we trekked to Mount Rushmore, but it cost $10 to get in, so we took a picture from the road and made a U-turn out of there (much to the parking attendant's dismay). It's cool and all, but there is no reason to pay money to get closer and/or watch a video you can probably find online anyway.

Also, there was a motorcycle rally going on in Sturgis, South Dakota when we went through, so there were bikes everywhere. Apparently this one is way bigger than the Easyrider Rodeo that goes on in my hometown every year.

  1. What gorgeous scenery! I never would have expected such things from SD. Then again, I will admit I'm completely ignorant to the topography of SD. Although, for some reason, I did know they have a massive biker rally in Sturgis. Don't ask me how I know. I just do.
